I had the presence of mind to turn on my hazard lights, fearing another car would hit me. The Equinox rolled at least once, then landed back on its wheels. I remember thinking that rolling was inevitable. My car veered left and to the side after impact. thus, I slammed into it, my cruise control still set to 75 mph. There were no lights, no flares, and I didn't see it until it was too late to react.

Someone in front of us, uninsured and driving on a revoked license, had fallen asleep at the wheel, hit the beginning of the guardrail, bending it inward like a paperclip, and flipped his car - a late 90's full sized SUV. For those wondering, I measured about 6 feet from the tailgate to the front seat (back seat folded down, then about 3 feet high, 3 feet side to side.Ī couple months ago (days after another road trip to California and back), my pregnant wife and I were driving on the interstate very late at night. I actually just got done moving, and was able to fit quite a bit of my furniture in the back. It's great for driving on dirt roads, has done well in snow, has good acceleration, good mileage (on a full tank, I was able to drive from Albuquerque to Flagstaff and still have somewhat more than a quarter tank), and the cargo space is great. There have been no real issues, and the mother in law still says the back seats are comfortable. I've been on another road trip to San Diego, CA (from Albuquerque) as well as to Lubbock, TX. It is now June of 2016, I still am driving and enjoying my Equinox.
Great for those camping trips to places where the campgrounds aren't all paved over. Good cargo space, and just a great overall SUV. It's got reasonable muscle, rides smoothly, and can handle light off roading (don't get too crazy, though). Took it on a road trip from Albuquerque to LA and San Diego with fiance and future mother in law recently - did very well, and my future mother in law who sat in the back the whole way commented about how comfortable it was. Instead, theres a shelf between the seatback level and cargo floor, which means you cannot sleep comfortably in the back without adding some padding.Įconomy: typically 17 mpg in town and 26 on the freeway.Got this SUV in Feb 2014. It would be nice if the back seat folded completely flat. Not really needed yet, but the car is not as supple as it once was and how long can parts like that last anyway? I am now contemplating whether it makes sense to replace front shocks. We also replaced every fluid in the car at this point. What the car needed was a tune-up! New plugs and wires. I feared a transmission failure, but that wasnt it. I guessed this might be an EGR valve.easily replaced. About 70,000 miles we were getting check engine warnings and some power loss.e.g., not eager throttle response. Anyway, this car has not left us stranded even once. It has made a few family vacations.up to 800 miles a day is no problem.
It has made lots of Home Depot enty of space (although I do not know why more SUV designers do not allow the front right seat to fold forward, ala Pontiac Vibe or Toyota Matrix). It has been a v-e-r-y reliable car! Mostly it has shuttled back and forth to work, about 5 miles each way. So 9 years ago we paid about 18K for an LT with sunroof and nice wheels. Many experts thought the company would go under. We bought the Equinox when GM was struggling.
